his book includes a collection of revised proceedings presented at the International Workshop "Management, Technology and Human Resources Policy in the Arctic (the North)" which was held 26 June - 1 July 1995 in Novosibirsk (Academgorodok). Western articles have been revised by Lise Lyck and Russian articles by Vladimir Boyko. English language corrections (minor) have been undertaken by Lise Lyck. All Russian articles have been translated into English in Russia. As comprehensive language corrections would have delayed the publication of the book too much, only small corrections, absolutely needed for the understanding, have been undertaken.
The Workshop was a NATO Advanced Research Workshop arranged in cooperation with and supported by the Ministry of Nationalities and Regional Policy of the Russian Federation and the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). The financial support was also rendered by the Khanti-Mansi Bank. The Siberian Division of RAS and the Institute of Philosophy and Law of SD RAS were the co-organizers on behalf of Russia (the co- organizer of the Workshop - Corresponding Member of RAS Vladimir I. Boiko). Professor Lise Lyck, Institute of Economics at the Copenhagen Business School was the organizer on behalf of NA TO. A thank to all involved persons and institutions and a special thank to professor Alain Jubier, NATO Science Division for his kind interest and his optimism.
In the workshop participated: Researchers from nine NATO countries, including the Director of the NATO program of scientific research, Dr. A. Jubier; researchers from Russia, including the President of the Siberian Division of RAS, Academician Valentin A.Koptyug, the President ofthe Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Michail E.Nikolayev, as well as leaders of scientific research institutes, centres, and councils specializing in the contemporary social development problems in the Arctic. Furthermore, some Western researchers had written articles to the workshop, but were unable to participate
