Dover Area School District, ruling that intelligent design “cannot uncouple itself from its creationist, and thus religious, antecedents.” The staff working on the book thought that this message would be a “slam dunk,” said Pope. They felt that the message would resonate strongly with audiences and directed the focus group facilitators to point out that a judge had decided that intelligent design is a form of creationism and thus religion and that teaching it in science classrooms is therefore unconstitutional and illegal.
