MANAGEMENT STYLES OF LABORATORY MANAGERS IN THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL SYSTEM

This study was designed to determine, based upon responses to
Reddin's Management. Style Diagnosis Test, the management styles and
demographic characteristics of the total population of Veterans
Administration Medical Center laboratory managers in the United
States, the proportion of effective to ineffective managers in the
system, and demographic characteristics of VA laboratory managers.
The demographic characteristics were determined by using a personal
data questionnaire developed by the investigator.
Effective management styles were used by 86.36% of the male
laboratory managers and 74.19% of the female laboratory managers.
This difference was statistically significant using the chi-square
technique. Most of the VA medical center laboratory managers were
very effective with 79.99% using effective management styles.
