The secret recipe
A call from the Food Network is nearly every restaurateur’s
dream. How was I going to contain myself? I was stoked
beyond belief and yet totally freaked out at the same time.
Th e woman said that within an hour of the end of the phone
call I needed to send additional material for her decision.
Th ere was absolutely only one answer to that: “Sure!”
And one fi nal thing she also asked. “Would you please
create a little seven-minute casting video and have it on my
desk in New York City fi rst thing Monday morning?”
Th is was a Th ursday afternoon. She wanted the video on
her desk across the country in four days. She gave me very
specifi c instructions on what to include. It meant we’d have
to shoot, edit, package, and ship within 48 hours.
“Sure. No problem,” I repeated. “We can have that to
you early Monday morning,” thinking, “Oh my gosh, today’s
