Performance Management

Part One includes Modules 1–3 and addresses general issues about performance management and business strategy-related considerations regarding performance management.
Module 1 includes a discussion of the advantages of implementing a successful performance management system, and of the negative outcomes associated with deficient systems, including lowered employee motivation and perceptions of unfairness. This module also includes what can be described as the features of an ideal system. Module 2 describes the performance management process, starting with what should be done before a system is implemented, and ending with the performance renewal and recontracting phases. Module 3 links performance management systems with reward systems and an organisation’s strategic planning. This module makes it clear that performance management systems are a critical component of the successful implementation of an organisation’s strategy.
