Migration Myths

Sustainable levels of immigration can bring significant social benefits and, when migrants bring with them complementary skills, can also have a small but positive impact on the public finances. The current level of immigration to the UK is unprecedented in its scale and there are significant implications for society, today and in the future. The population is increasing rapidly and over two thirds of future growth is the result of immigration. This paper reconsiders many of the claimed benefits in light of the longer term impacts of migration and examines the impact of population growth on the provision of public services, housing and the environment.
