Quarterly Panorama of European business statistics

The Quarterly panorama of European business statistics has the objective of furnishing readers with an instrument which will allow them to follow the evolution of short-term economic trends in relation to the business sector of the economy (as defined by NACE Rev. 2 Sections B to N). This is the first edition of the publication in 2011; it is produced by Eurostat Unit G3 - responsible for short-term business statistics (STS). The publication is released on a regular, quarterly basis. The STS database is based on the NACE Rev. 2 classification and the base year for indices is currently 2005=100. The classification (NACE Rev. 2) has been modernised by introducing new detail to reflect different forms of production and emerging industries. The detail of the classification has substantially increased in service-producing activities. NACE Rev. 2 provides a better picture of the overall economy and facilitates international comparisons. The publication follows the structure of the STS Regulation, insofar as it presents a selection of key indicators for industry, construction, retail trade and other services. Among the most important indicators are a set of Principal European Economic Indicators (PEEIs) that are essential to the European Central Bank for reviewing monetary policy within the euro area.
