Production and productivity in the European Union
In a somewhat simplified analysis of the economy, the economic system can be broken down into two main parts: on one side the enterprise 'operators', producing goods and services, providing employment and distributing income in the form of wages; on the other the hou- sehold operators, receiving income and consuming goods and services. The other operators in the econo- mic system are the general government and the rest of the world. The interrelations between the various opera- tors are extremely complex, and all these data are sum- marised in the national accounting system. Eurostat has an enormous quantity of statistical data and therefore of information on the whole economic system; however, the very wealth of data makes it dif- ficult to work out indicators for the whole picture. The purpose of this publication is to fully illustrate both what data are available from the National Accounts, and to supply a summary of the information that can be derived from them, via the text and the information contained in the graphs and tables.
