DECC, Energy & Climate Change – But no Population?
This paper explains the goals of UK’s Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC); followed by its policies as means for achieving these goals. This description reveals the complete absence of addressing population (explosion) from this governmental department’s works. Thus ignoring one of the main underlying causes of excessive energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, which together lead to climate change. It also highlights the immense interconnected nature of society- economy-environment; problems in one field negatively impact the other two. Thus, a holistic approach is crucial in understanding and addressing energy/climate change challenges. That is why Population Matters continues to promote a set of central and integrated social/demographic, cultural, economic and environmental policies for achieving population sustainability, as one of the principal tools in tackling energy inefficiency and global warming.
