Research Methods

It’s intended for students whose research involves studying human beings or
collecting information from human beings. That’s a broad field: it includes, for
instance, social geographers, and computer science students getting their
software evaluated by users. It also includes research studying human beings
via the artefacts that they produce, such as analysis of texts. Although fields
such as literary criticism are well established and have their own ways of doing
things, there’s plenty of scope for introducing some new ways of tackling most
fields, and we hope that this book will introduce readers to some fruitful new
approaches to their own areas.
