Ambient Intelligence, Wireless Networking, and Ubiquitous Computing
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) has recently emerged as a vibrant research endeavor shaping our view of future computing and its role in society. While the inception point of AmI could always be argued about, it becomes apparent today that AmI has emerged and established itself as a result of a vivid synergy between several essential components such as- ubiquitous or pervasive computing, intelligent sys- tems, context-awareness and an ultimate appreciation ofvarious social interactions formed between humans and systems. The landscape of AmI is highly diversified coming with a plethora of concepts, algorithms, paradigms, and promising implementations as well as a variety of exist- ing systems. Hence building a detailed roadmap of AmI is perhaps a somewhat futile job.Yet what is presented in Figure P.1 is a viable attempt to offer a bird’s eye view of the content of this volume.
