GROUNDWORK OPEN SOURCE VS. HP SOFTWARE
According to Gartner Dataquest* IT Operations Management software consumed $12.9 billion in spending in 2007. Of this, $4.3 billion, or 33%, was spent on availability, performance, and network management, representing the largest portion of IT Operations Management software spending. Just over $3 billion of this, or 70%, was spent amongst only four vendors: BMC, CA, HP, and IBM, also known as “The Big Four” of network and systems management.
GroundWork Open Source provides commercial open source alternatives to the systems and network monitoring and management products offered by Big Four vendors, while allowing for integration with other offerings like help desk and asset tracking systems from said vendors. GroundWork does so while offering comparable scalability, superior extensibility, and dramatic cost savings when compared to traditional Big Four products.
This study examines in detail the cost savings offered by GroundWork relative to comparable offerings from HP Software, although similar savings would also be expected for comparisons against BMC, CA, or IBM.
